UPDATE: RESIDENTS in the flood-hit town of Nathalia who live south of Broken Creek have been told to get ready to evacuate.
A leak in the natural levee under Weir St in Nathalia has been contained.
Waters continue to seep through the road surface and are being contained by a wall of sandbags built by volunteers from the community alongside SES, CFA and army officers early this morning.
Local SES members said concerns over the leaking section of the lever had eased and an engineer had approved the second sandbag barrier.
At least one home on the outskirts of town, not protected by the levees, has been inundated overnight.
Locals are continuing to carry sandbags to isolated homes on small boats and dinghies.
The SES issued an evacuation warning to residents at 4.55am.
"All residents of Nathalia, south of the Broken Creek, particularly properties in the vicinity of Weir St levee bank protection system are strongly advised to prepare to evacuate," the memo said.
Residents in the northern part of town were given a prepare to evacuate notice at 7.15am.
An evacuation registration centre on Robinsons St has also been closed and residents have been told to meet police south of Nathalia on the Murray Valley Hwy.
